Today, June 29, 2026, iMATUS hosted the celebration of the 5th iMATUS Thesis Pitch, a day dedicated to making the work of doctoral students linked to our institute visible. The event stood out for the very high scientific level and the communicative ability of the participants, who presented their research projects in a dynamic and accessible format.
This initiative aims to offer students, from the second year of their thesis, a space to disseminate their research advances in just five minutes, using Galician, Spanish or English.
A high-level day
The session had an agenda of presentations that covered various strategic areas of iMATUS:
- Alejandro Ramírez Romero: Piezoelectric scaffolds covered with cell membranes for personalized regenerative medicine.
- Angel Míguez Roel: Theoretical-computational study of transport in ionic liquids confined in complex nanostructures.
- Lara Pazos Soto: Bioaccessibility studies for the evaluation of human exposure to chemical contaminants from packaging through the diet.
- Lucía Aboal Castro: Advanced scaffolds for complex tissue engineering.
- Raúl Lois Cuns: Simulation of densely ionic electrolytes under confinement.
- Sheila González Barcia: Development of analytical methodologies for the analysis of metal nanoparticles in environmental matrices.
- Uxía Gato Díaz: Development of preclinical models of breast cancer for pharmacological screening.
Winners of the 2026 edition
After deliberation, the jury recognized the exceptional quality of the interventions, proclaiming as winners:
Lucía Aboal Castro, Uxía Gato Díaz and Lara Pazos Soto
In recognition of their effort and excellence, the three winners received a diploma and will have the opportunity to record an informative video for publication on the institute’s YouTube channel, thus contributing to the social dissemination of science carried out at iMATUS.
