Maite Flores Arias assumes the presidency of SEDOPTICA

Professor Maite Flores Arias, a researcher at iMATUS, has been elected the new president of the Spanish Optical Society (SEDOPTICA).
She succeeds Luis Plaja Rustein and will lead the organization for the next three years.

The scientific community celebrates the appointment of Maite Flores Arias as president of the Spanish Optical Society. This milestone reinforces iMATUS’s leadership in the field of optics and photonics at the national level.

Professor’s Career and Notable Achievements:

  • Professor of Optics at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).
  • Leading researcher at iMATUS, where she coordinates the L2A2 infrastructure (Laser Laboratory for Acceleration and Other Applications).
  • International Recognition: Appointed an EOS Fellow 2025 by the European Optical Society.
  • Previous Experience: She has served as vice president of SEDOPTICA and secretary of the European Optical Society.

Objectives of the new phase:

Under his presidency, it is expected that the cohesion of the Spanish scientific community will be strengthened and the technological development of the discipline will be promoted, leveraging its strong international presence.
