The University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) has brought together the Equality Committees of its centres, research centres and heads of university residences to promote the dissemination of its new Protocol against sexual violence and harassment. The aim is to guarantee the rights of people who are harassed and combat these situations in the university environment.
Key points:
- New Protocol: The protocol, approved at the end of 2024, seeks to create a regulatory framework and active policies to prevent and respond to cases of sexual violence and harassment based on sex, sexual orientation and gender identity or expression.
- Dissemination: The USC seeks to increase knowledge of this protocol among the entire university community.
- Strategic Equality Plan: The meeting also served to advance the development of the new USC Strategic Equality Plan, which will continue the current plan between 2021 and 2024.
- Participants: The meeting was coordinated by the Rector’s Delegate for Equality, Sonia E. Rodríguez Boente, who highlighted the committees’ willingness to work on the new plan.
- iMATUS: The equality committees include the USC Materials Institute (iMATUS), whose president is Josefa Salgado and its secretary is Carmen Bao, with Yolanda Piñeiro Redondo, Manuel Vázquez Ramallo, Maria del Mar Rodríguez Couselo, and Alvaro Gil González as members.
USC thus reaffirms its commitment to equality and the creation of a safe and respectful environment for the entire university community.
