The prestigious German physicist and Nobel Prize winner in Physics, Klaus von Klitzing, visited the iMATUS facilities in Santiago de Compostela yesterday as part of the Conciencia programme, directed by iMATUS professor and researcher Jorge Mira, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Workshop on Physics for Knowledge and Technology. Accompanied by the Regional Minister of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training, Román Rodríguez González, von Klitzing highlighted the importance of scientific research as a driver of innovation and technological development.
During his speech, the award-winning scientist, known for his discovery of the Quantum Hall Effect, underlined the relevance of physics in the advancement of knowledge and its practical application in key areas for the future, such as renewable energies and advanced materials.
For his part, Román Rodríguez González reaffirmed the commitment of the Xunta de Galicia to science and technology, highlighting iMATUS as a benchmark in cutting-edge research and a key player in the training of new scientific talents. “This type of event puts us on the international map of science, promoting collaboration between institutions and experts from around the world,” said the counselor.
