Tho Kim Thoa Awarded at ICARUS 2024

The ICARUS Program, promoted by the Area of Valorization, Transfer, and Entrepreneurship (AVTE), held its annual award ceremony on July 10, recognizing the technical and economic feasibility of various doctoral theses and academic works. In this edition, Dr. Tho Kim Thoa was awarded in the field of Health Sciences for her outstanding thesis titled ‘Eco-innovations for Advanced Pulmonary Drug Delivery: Alginate Particles Loaded with Beclomethasone Dipropionate via Supercritical and Aerogel Technologies’.

Dr. Thoa’s research, supervised by researchers Carmen Álvarez-Lorenzo and Carlos A. García-González from iMATUS, addresses innovative solutions for pulmonary drug delivery. Using supercritical and aerogel technologies, she has developed alginate particles loaded with beclomethasone dipropionate, presenting significant advances in the field of pulmonary health.

The ICARUS program aims to promote reflection on the social and economic application of the knowledge generated in the final degree, master’s, and doctoral theses of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). This program not only recognizes academic excellence but also emphasizes the importance of knowledge transfer and innovation in society.

iMATUS, in turn, is dedicated to frontier research in new materials and their applications in health, environment, energy, and industrial innovation. Dr. Thoa’s award is a testament to the significant impact that these studies can have on improving global health and well-being.
