Santiago de Compostela, July 4, 2024 – iMATUS held its eagerly awaited third Thesis Pitch contest today. This event aims to highlight and reward the most promising and well-presented research by doctoral students, focused on offering solutions to major social challenges defined in European, Spanish, and regional innovation strategies.
The contest, which began at 09:30, was chaired by Dr. Jesús Liñares Beiras, who gave an opening speech and introduced the members of the jury: Bárbara Blanco Fernández (secretary), Mariana Landín Pérez, Jorge Mira Pérez, and Rubén Manuel Corral Aneiros. Dr. Jorge Mira Pérez, coordinator of the outreach, specialized training, and dissemination unit, also addressed the participants before the presentations began.
The doctoral students presented their work on a wide range of topics within materials science, highlighting clarity, presentation quality, and dissemination capacity as the main criteria for evaluation.
After intense deliberations, the jury announced the winners of the contest, highlighting the excellence of their research and their ability to communicate complex ideas in an accessible and engaging manner.
The winners, listed alphabetically, were:
Sandra Mariño Cortegoso: Valorization of by-products from the agri-food industry through the recovery of high-value-added compounds for application as ingredients and additives in the circular economy.
Martín Otero Lema: Ionic liquids and ionogels at the electrolyte-electrode interface of energy devices.
Maria Pita Vilar: Development of personalized dressings from cellulosic derivatives for the treatment of chronic wounds and diabetic ulcers.
Each of the winners was recognized with a certificate presented by the jury members as a symbol of their achievement.
